The Volvo PV444 is a Swedish passenger car built by Volvo from 1944-1958. As a harbinger of peace and better times, Volvo presented the PV444 in September 1944 during a major Volvo exhibition in Stockholm. The car was very attractively priced: 4,800 Swedish crowns was the same price that Volvo's first car, the ÖV4, cost in 1927.

Style influences from America had impact on the design of the Volvo PV444. And this was the first Volvo with a self-supporting body. The PV444 also featured a laminated windshield – an important new safety feature. The interest in the Volvo PV444 was enormous. Instead of the planned 8,000 units, Volvo built almost 200,000 before the model was upgraded to PV544. The PV444 was the first small Volvo passenger car and the model that really got Volvo's passenger car production going.

This beautiful Volvo PV444 L comes from the last year of production. A previous owner must have preferred an earlier style grille (until model year 1955) with four horizontal bars, which gives the car an even more classic appearance. The other details are correct for the 1957 model year. The Volvo was sold new in the Netherlands and registered on May 31, 1957. The automobile was restored many years ago.
