The Peugeot 504 Cabriolet is designed and build (in Turin, beside the Alfa Duetto) by Pininfarina. Its biggest competitor was the Fiat 124 Spider, also styled by Pininfarina. And not only was the Fiat 124 Sport Spider styled by Pininfarina, it was arguably the same overall design as the Peugeot 504. This was at a time when Italian design houses excelled at selling the same basic design to multiple manufacturers, but it was to be noted that Peugeot's Cabriolet was more expensive than the Fiat.
While the Peugeot 504 sedan premiered in September of 1968, the Coupe and the Cabriolet were not revealed to the public until the Geneva motor show in 1969. Technical they were identical to the 504 only the wheelbase was 15 cm shorter. At first only delivered with an injection engine of the 504 TI . From 1970 was the 1.971 cc engine available.
This wonderful Peugeot 504 Cabriolet is from 1970. The 504 was delivered new in the Netherlands on 30 January 1970. The Peugeot dealer in Wolvega sold this Cabriolet to a private individual and the car always stayed in the Netherlands. After many years of driving it with pleasure, the Peugeot dealer's son-in-law purchased the car and in the 1990s the car was restored by him and his son.
Now of age and many years after the restoration, he decided to take the car out of storage and give it a new life.. The brakes have been checked, new oil and filters and a few other things that make driving this fantastic car a pleasure.
The 2.0-ltr injection engine runs fantastic, the car shifts and brakes as befits a Peugeot. In short, a lovely car, which was restored well at the time and still is completely in its original condition. The red paint in combination with the black interior lends the car an elegant, yet sporty look. The bottom was treated thoroughly against rust.
