Mercedes 300 CD (W123)

The Mercedes-Benz W123 is a range of executive cars produced by German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz from November 1975 to January 1986. The W123 models surpassed their predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz W114, as the most successful Mercedes, selling 2.7 million units before production ended in the autumn of 1985 for the saloon/sedan versions and January 1986 for coupés and estates/station wagons.

About a year after the presentation of the sedan, a new two-door model based on the new mid-range class was launched. The design was much more pleasing than its predecessor, as the wheelbase had been shortened by 85 mm compared to the standard sedan despite the higher production costs. This, in conjunction with the more inclined windows and the lower roof structure, resulted in very harmonious proportions.

For the North American market, the C123 (coupé) was available with both petrol (280CE) and naturally aspirated diesel (300CD) until 1981. The 3-litre five-cylinder diesel engine certainly occupies a special position in Daimler-Benz's diesel engine range. This engine – the world's first 5-cylinder car engine – made diesel acceptable in the passenger car sector.

This Mercedes 300 CD with 144,000 miles on the odometer was produced in December 1979 for the American market. The Coupe has a 4-speed automatic gearbox, cruise control, Radio Becker Europe, and climate control. The car has been imported into the EU, but still has an American registration.
