The Fiat 124 Coupé was a two-door coupé produced by Fiat between 1967 and 1975 in three generations: the AC, BC and CC. The 124 Coupé was designed by Mario Boano, who was hired by Fiat and was made responsible for the in-house Centro Stile Fiat. The Spider was designed by Pininfarina. The Spider and Coupé shared the same basic platform as the 124 Sedan (or Berlina in Italian), however the Spider had a 14 cm shorter wheelbase. The four cylinder, aluminium, twin overhead cam engine was designed by ex-Ferrari engineer Aurelio Lampredi. Other mechanicals include a 5-speed gearbox (although very early AC models featured only a 4-speed) and disc brakes at each wheel.
The Fiat Twin Cam engine has been widely used in motorsport and has been the most successful engine in the history of the World Rally Championship. The World Rally Championship for Manufacturers has been won by Fiat and Lancia, using engines based on the Lampredi Twin Cam engine, for a total of 10 years.
Of the third model were considerably less sold than of the AC and the BC. The 124 Coupe had to compete with cars like the Ford Capri, Opel Manta and the Toyota Celica. As a result, this CC model is rare. There were approx. 113.869 AC Coupés, 99.500 BC Coupés and about 66.300 CC Coupés manufactured.
This Fiat 124 Sport Coupé 1600 from 1974 is one of the third series (type 124 CC). The engine is of the 132AC000 type with a cubic capacity of 1.592 cc and delivers 103 horsepower. In combination with 4 speed manual and a 34DMS Weber carburettor this Sport Coupé had in his good old days a top speed of 180 km/h. The car is in a very good condition, drives fantastic and has a good road holding. The body is still intact and the chrome is still shining. The Coupe is imported to Netherlands in 2003. In December 2018, the cylinder head gasket was replaced, grinding and refitting the valves, valve seats machined, aluminium cylinder resurfaced and the head was cleaned. The Dutch MoT (APK) runs to March 2021.
